Presenting a Communication Skills Model of Elementary First Period Schools Principals in Tehran City based on a Mixed Approach

Purpose: Communication skills are one of the basic skills required for every school principal. Therefore, the aim of this study was presenting a communication skills model of elementary first-year school principals in Tehran city based on a mixed approach.
Methodology: This study was a mixed (qualitative and quantitative). The research population in the qualitative part was experts in the field of educational management in Tehran city, which 15 people of them according to the theoretical saturation principle were selected with using purposive and snowball sampling methods. The research population in the quantitative part was elementary first-year school principals in Tehran city with number 1300 people, which 297 people of them according to the Krejcie and Morgan table were selected with using multi-stage cluster sampling method. The research tool in the qualitative part was a semi-structured interview and in the quantitative part was a researcher-made questionnaire, which whose psychometric indicators were confirmed, and the data were analyzed with using open, axial, and selective coding methods in MAXQDA software and exploratory factor analysis and structural equation modeling in SPSS and Amos software, respectively.
Findings: The qualitative findings showed that the communication skills of elementary first-year school principals had 112 indicators in 15 components and 3 dimensions of individual, organizational, and extra-organizational. The quantitative findings showed that the questionnaire of communication skills of elementary first-year school principals had 89 items with a factor loading higher than 0.40 in 15 components and 3 dimensions of individual, organizational, and extra-organizational. Also, the presenting a communication skills model of elementary first-year school principals had a good fit and the model on the individual, organizational, and extra-organizational dimensions and each dimensions on the relevant component had a significant effect (P<0.05).
Conclusion: The communication skills model of elementary first-year school principals can help to educational system specialists, officials, and planners for design and improve the communication skills of principals.
